Lai Feng Holdings, Inc., which conducts Novotown tourism development on Hengchen Island in mainland China, has announced that it will build a motorbike-themed "experience center" based on the Ducati brand. Italian motorbike maker Ducati Motor Holding SpA licensed the brand to Hong Kong-listed Lai Feng for 10 years from the center's opening date and offered options for an additional 10 years.
The Dukati Experience Center will cover 4,500 square meters and offer what it calls "interactive motorcycle racing," places to eat and shops, according to an announcement published on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange on Thursday.
Chinese authorities expect Hung-chien to be a draw for tourists with casinos in Macau and non-game attractions to make up for tourism highlights. Hung-chien is next to Macau. A highway and a bridge connect the island with Macau's Kotai district.
In a separate announcement, Raipeng said it had secured "specific key partners" for the Novotown second phase. The company also said it had reached an agreement with Spanish football club Real Madrid to set up entertainment facilities based on the storied club and create an educational institution for Harrow School and Hungchin, a private secondary school in London, England.
Each development is said to be under planning for the second phase of the Novotown project, and the construction of each attraction depends on obtaining planning approval and successfully securing the necessary land.
The premium for the 143,768-square-meter (1.5 million-square-foot) land concession required for the second phase would be nearly 762 million yuan ($110.6 million), Lai Feng said, adding that one unit of the company would spend at least 3.5 billion yuan on development, including land costs, if it successfully bids for land acquisitions.
To complement existing facilities such as the Chimelong International Marine Tourism Resort, which features hotels and theme parks and is popular with visitors from other parts of mainland China, the increase in non-game tourism entertainment about Hung-chien has been touted as a way to develop a market for "two-center vacations," which include Macau as part of the itinerary.
In Thursday's announcement, Lai Feng told the Hong Kong exchange that it was exploring business and investment opportunities in the cultural and entertainment-related sectors of mainland China. "The board of directors of Lai Feng believes that the motorcycle-themed experience to be presented at the centre will broaden the entertainment horizons of Novotown and Heng Chin and its connection to Ducati will raise Lai Feng's profile," the statement added.
The first step on the Novotown site is to include Lionsgate Entertainment World, a place called National Geographic Ultimate Explorer, and the Hengqin Hyatt Regency Hotel among the attractions.
